How to find your PHP version: 6 easy ways
Shared hosting, WordPress or your own server – these methods show which PHP version is really running.
1. Check online with PHP Checker
The fastest way: enter your domain on the home page. PHP Checker shows public hints and rates the patch level.
2. Look in your hosting panel
Most hosts show the active PHP version per domain – in Plesk under “PHP Settings”, in cPanel under “Select PHP Version” or “MultiPHP Manager”.
3. In WordPress
Go to Tools → Site Health → Info → Server.
4. With phpinfo()
Create a file with this content, open it in the browser and delete it right afterwards:
<?php phpinfo();
Safer: the PHP Checker verification file reveals only the version and expires after 60 minutes.
5. On the command line
php -v
Note: the CLI version can differ from the one your web server (PHP-FPM) uses.
6. Read the HTTP headers
curl -sI https://example.com | grep -i x-powered-by
Many servers hide this header – then use methods 1 to 4.
Not into the technical stuff? The checker does it for you.
